Elected Mayor 2001.
Mayor Rob has served Walker in a number of roles for over 25 years. He
served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for 14 years before being elected
Mayor in 2001. He and his wife Norma have lived in Walker for over 30
years and raised their 4 daughters here. They are now enjoying 8
grandchildren.
Rob is a graduate of Grand Rapids Community College, the University of
Michigan, and Wayne State University Law School.
Mayor Rob has been a Meijer employee for almost 30 years. He currently
is a vice president, deputy general counsel, and is the Meijer Family
Counsel. In addition, he has served as a Board Member of the Dispute
Resolution Center of West Michigan, Mel Trotter Ministries, the West
Michigan Sports Commission, and the Christian Rest Home. He was
appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court to a Task Force on Alternative
Dispute Resolution and serves on the Sculpture Committee at the Frederik
Meijer Gardens.
Rob chairs the Finance Committee of the Walker City Commission, and
represents Walker on the Boards of the Grand Valley Metropolitan Council
and the ITP.
Rob’s priorities as Mayor include fiscal responsibility, the
identification of areas in which collaboration with our neighbors can
reduce the cost of government, programs for Seniors, and participatory
decision making. He also supports trail systems and sidewalks to
encourage fitness and pedestrian.
