City Commission Staff Meeting Minutes

COMMISSION STAFF MEETING
MINUTES – March 16, 2009

Mayor Ver Heulen called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

Present: Mayor Rob Ver Heulen, Commissioners: Al Parent, Dan Kent, Barb Holt, Chuck Deschaine, Cyndy Stek and Steve Versluis.

Also Present: City Manager Cathy Vander Meulen and Assistant City Manager Darrel Schmalzel.

Bonnie Broadwater from Engineering spoke on the Gypsy Moth spraying. Based upon another review of the areas by our expert, the spraying in the 1st Ward will be slightly expanded. They were advised not to expand spraying the area in the 3rd Ward.

Assistant City Manager Schmalzel spoke in regards to the payroll processing service agreement.

Motion by Commissioner Parent, seconded by Commissioner Holt, to adopt the payroll processing service agreement. Motion carried.

City Manager Vander Meulen invited the Commissioners to a White Caps game with Sue Wyngarden on June 4, 2009.

City Manager Vander Meulen is preparing a report in regards to the Mineral Mining issues and she will bring it to the Commission.

Five bids were received for the Accounting Software.

City Manager Vander Meulen spoke about Frank Wash putting together a "City Map". The Commission was in favor of this project.

Consumers Energy is proposing a large rate increase that will affect municipalities across the state. The MML is soliciting communities to participate in challenging this action.

Motion made by Commissioner Holt, seconded by Commissioner Stek, to spend up to $2,100.00 for the effort. Motion carried.

DDA had an open house on March 17.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM.
