WALKER CITY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
CITY COMMISSION CHAMBERS
4243 REMEMBRANCE RD.
August 24, 2009

COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING:

Mayor Robert VerHeulen called the Committee of the Whole Meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

Mel Bauman presented the U.S. Army Covenant to the City Commission and introduced six other U.S. reservists. The Commission awarded the Army Community Covenant to the United States Army Reserves.

Chief Catherine Garcia-Lindstrom presented the Citizen Award to Ricky Johnson.

REGULAR COMMISSION MEETING

Mayor Robert Ver Heulen called the meeting to order at 8:00 PM.

Commissioner Kent gave the invocation, and the City Clerk called the roll.

Present: Mayor VerHeulen, Commissioners: Parent, Kent, Deschaine, Holt, Stek, and Versluis.

Also present: City Manager Vander Meulen, Assistant City Manager Schmalzel.

Mayor comments: Mayor VerHeulen stated the Finance Committee approved the specifications for a new snow plow truck and approved submitting it for bid. This truck will replace two trucks in the existing fleet.

Mayor VerHeulen stated the Venue Restaurant opened on Monday and their operating hours are from 11:00 AM to 2:00 AM. It is a family owned business which will create 15 jobs within the community.

Motion by Commissioner Parent, seconded by Commissioner Holt, to approve the City Commission minutes of August 10, 2009. Motion carried 7-0

Public Comment: None

Chief Garcia-Lindstrom spoke about the new records management system for the Police department. The RMS Agreement will cost $85,000. It will be a state of the art program working off of a Windows system. The current system is operated by DOS which is approximately 30 years old. The current system costs the City money due to problems.

City Manager Vander Meulen discussed the Single Trash Hauler Survey. Discussion was held in response to this.

Motion by Commissioner Deschaine, seconded by Commissioner Kent, to approve the expenditures in the amount of $1, 435,886.82. Motion carried 7-0.

Motion by Commissioner Stek, seconded by Commissioner Holt, to approve the police RMS agreement. Motion carried 7-0.

Motion by Commissioner Parent, seconded by Commissioner Kent to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 7-0.

Meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
