WALKER CITY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
CITY COMMISSION CHAMBERS

September 14, 2009

COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING:

Mayor Robert VerHeulen called the Committee of the Whole Meeting to order at 7:05 PM.

Commissioner Stek updated the Commission on the Edison House. The Community Development Block Grant was approved for handicap access to the Edison House.

Commissioner Holt stated the Rapid basis the need for stops on the cost per stop.

Commissioner Deschaine expressed the need for the Rapid to stop at City Hall.

Jamison Niezurawski from Paradox Productions gave a presentation to the City Commission regarding formation of Walker Chamber of Commerce.

REGULAR COMMISSION MEETING

Mayor Robert Ver Heulen called the meeting to order at 8:00 PM.

Commissioner Deschaine gave the invocation, and the City Clerk called the roll.

Present: Mayor VerHeulen, Commissioners: Parent, Deschaine, Holt, Stek, and Versluis.

Absent: Commissioner Kent. Also present: City Manager Vander Meulen, Assistant City Manager Schmalzel.

Motion by Commissioner Parent, seconded by Commissioner Versluis, to approve the City Commission Meeting minutes of August 24, 2009. Motion carried 6-0.

Motion by Commissioner Versluis, seconded by Commissioner Holt, to approve the Special Commission Meeting minutes of September 1, 2009. Motion carried 6-0.

Public Comment: Laura Demaat was in attendance for her Journalism Class at Cornerstone University.

Mayor VerHeulen read a Proclamation for Recovery Palooza 2009.

The Local Officers Compensation Commission met to discuss the Salaries of the Mayor, City Commission and City Clerk. The LOCC praised the Mayor, Commissioners and City Clerk for their hard work end continued efforts. After a complete review and discussion, the LOCC recommended no increases in salaries for the fiscal year July 1, 2009- June 30, 2010 and a 1.5 % increase for fiscal year July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2011.

Motion by Commissioner Deschaine, seconded by Commissioner Holt, to reject the LOCC recommendation in respect to the Mayor and Commissioners. Motion carried 6-0.

Motion by Commissioner Parent, seconded by Commissioner Versluis, to approve the expenditures in the amount of $2,778,234.87. Motion carried 6-0.

Motion by Commissioner Stek, seconded by Commissioner Holt, to approve Resolution 09-103, Charitable Gaming License for the Edison House Foundation Inc. Motion carried 6-0.

The Commission held a Special Commission meeting prior to the Regular Commission meeting to discuss the 3 Mile Bridge project. The Commission unanimously agreed to downsize the bridge project, subject to the Regional Bridge Authority confirmation.

Motion by Commissioner Parent, seconded by Commissioner Stek, to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 6-0.

Meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
