WALKER CITY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
CITY COMMISSION CHAMBERS

OCTOBER 12, 2009
COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING:
Mayor VerHeulen called the Committee of the Whole Meeting to order at
7:00 p.m.
Police Chief Catherine Garcia-Linstrom and City Clerk assisted in
swearing in of Barb Stuckey, a new Volunteer Police Officer, and James
Durr, Police Chaplin. Police Chief and Dispatcher Carl Wood presented a
Citizen Award to Don Vainavicz for his efforts.
Rapid Transit gave a presentation to introduce the Community
Awareness Workshops they will be hosting in Walker and surrounding
areas.
Commissioner Deschaine asked if the Rapid could research having a bus
stop brought back to the City of Walker, City Hall location.
The City Commission reviewed the items on the agenda.
REGULAR COMMISSION MEETING:
Mayor VerHeulen called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m.
Commissioner Stek gave the invocation and the City Clerk called the
roll.
Present: Mayor VerHeulen, Commissioners: Parent, Deschaine, Holt, and
Stek.
Also Present: City Manager Vander Meulen.
Motion by Deschaine, seconded by Holt, to approve Commission minutes
of 9-28-09.
Motion carried unanimously.
Public Comment: None
Shannon Bales was sworn in as the new Deputy City Clerk and a portion
of the Youth Commission were sworn in.
Motion by Parent, seconded by Deschaine, to approve the expenditures
in the amount of $19,599,668.75. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Holt, seconded by Stek, to approve the Walker Emergency
Communications Operators Agreement. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Parent, seconded by Stek, to approve Ordinance 09-575
Second Reading of North Kent Sewer Agreement- Sewer Use Ordinance
Amendments. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Deschaine, seconded by Holt, to approve Ordinance 09-576
Second Reading of Second Hand Dealer Ordinance. Motion carried
unanimously.
Commissioner Comments:
Mayor Ver Heulen introduced Heather Klut, who was in attendance for
her Government Class from Calvin Christian.
Commissioner Parent spoke in regards to a Planning Commission item.
Discussion was in regards to two vacant homes owned by Walker Orchard
Land Partners. City Manager Vander Meulen said she would contact Mr.
Bossenbroek to explain the process the City of Walker will take if the
City removes the homes and places a lien on the properties.
Motion by Parent, seconded by Holt, to adjourn the meeting. Motion
carried unanimously.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
