Commissioner Gary Carey

Carey PictureWelcome to the City of Walker, and thank you for visiting my profile!
I was first appointed by city leaders in January of 2013, to fill an open City Commission seat. In November of 2013, I was officially elected by the voters of Walker to serve our community. In 2014, I celebrated fifteen years of public service to Walker, most of that with our Historical Commission. I am one of two commissioners representing the 2nd Ward, and reside at 2068 Deerfield NW. My family and I have lived there since 1998.

Currently, I am employed as an Area Sales Vice President for Paycor. I lead the sales teams and offices that cover our Michigan, northern Indiana, and northwest Ohio markets. We are a privately held, entrepreneurial, and rapidly growing Software Company. Paycor is headquartered in Cincinnati, and passionately supports its associates in the communities we serve. Our first guiding company principle of “take care of the client first”, helps position me to serve the residents of Walker. Prior to Paycor, I enjoyed over twenty years with two Fortune 500 companies where I held various roles in sales and operational leadership.

When not spending my time in service to the Walker community, or Paycor, I have served in numerous volunteer roles with the Kenowa Hills School District. Some of my involvements included serving as a High School Football Coach; Education Foundation President and Trustee; Facilities and Bond Committees, and I acted in a role as Chairperson for the successful 2010 Kenowa Hills bond campaign. Because of my passion and commitment I have for our local schools, I am well positioned to help facilitate any discussion or action we
need to take together. Successful public school districts are an essential fabric that strengthens any community.

In addition to my City Commission seat, I actively serve the Walker community in the following roles:
  • Finance Committee
  • Building Committee
  • Emergency Planning Committee
  • Police/Fire Committee
  • Interurban Transit Partnership Board of Directors, representing Walker
I have been married to my wife Cori for 25 years, and have three adult children: Alex, Brenden, and Caitlin. Alex and Caitlin have entered training and careers in Law Enforcement, while Brenden is entering Dental School in 2016.  I am also a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
I can be contacted at 616.292.1715, or by email. You can follow my Commissioner page on Facebook, Twitter, or connect with me on Linked In.
