Mayor Mark Huizenga
I was elected to the Mayor’s seat in November 2013. It is my distinct honor and privilege to serve in this capacity. Walker is a fantastic city – some call it a hidden gem with lots of schools, churches and wonderful neighborhoods. It is my goal to continue to provide leadership to enhance what I think is a wonderful community.
I was born in Grand Rapids and grew up in Walker. Working on my parent’s farm gave me an appreciation for agriculture, hard work and business. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Calvin College and Master’s Degree in Management from Aquinas College. I am a self-employed small business owner providing health care consultation services throughout the United States. My consulting practice focuses on process improvement and strategic planning with an expertise in infusion services. My clients are both physician practices and hospitals.
Prior to my election as Mayor, I served as a City Commissioner for the Third Ward since 2011; I have also served as an appointed member of the Walker Planning Commission for six years.
I have served as a Deacon, Elder and as Cub Scout Leader for 13 years at my church, LaGrave CRC. I have been priviledged to serve on various community boards and committees including: Health Development International, Asthma Network of West Michigan, Calvin Christian School Foundation and the Calvin College Business Alliance. I have lectured on health management topics internationally in Albania, Honduras, India and the United Arab Emirates.
